How to get to Xingyi

Until recently this was the hard part. In November 2025 the Panxing high-speed railway opened and Xingyi joined China's HSR network — now it's genuinely easy from any direction.

By high-speed train

Xingyi's HSR station is Xingyi South (兴义南), opened November 2025 on the new Panzhou–Xingyi line. It connects at Panzhou to the Shanghai–Kunming trunk line, which means one-seat or one-change journeys from most of southwest China.

FromJourneyApprox. time
Guiyang 贵阳Direct HSR to Xingyi South~2 hours
Kunming 昆明HSR with an easy same-station change at Panzhou 盘州~2.5–3 hours
Guilin / YangshuoHSR to Guiyang, then Guiyang → Xingyi South~5–6 hours total
Chengdu / ChongqingHSR to Guiyang, then onward~5–7 hours total

Times are approximate — always check the live timetable when booking. Schedules on the new line are still being added to.

Buying train tickets as a foreigner

By air

Xingyi Wanfengling Airport (ACX) sits just outside the city with direct flights from several major cities. Service is particularly good from Shenzhen and Zhuhai — with other routes (Beijing, Shanghai, Chengdu, Chongqing and more) varying by season. If no direct flight fits, flying into Guiyang (KWE) or Kunming (KMG) and taking the train works well too.

Coming from Hong Kong or Macau? This is the shortcut most travellers miss: cross the border to Shenzhen (from Hong Kong) or Zhuhai (from Macau) and take the direct flight to Xingyi. Door to door it's usually the fastest international route into the karst country.

From the station or airport to town

The route nobody tells you about

If your China plan includes both Yangshuo/Guilin and Yunnan — the two classic stops of the southwest — look at a map: Xingyi sits almost exactly between them. Breaking the journey here turns a long travel day into two short ones, and gives you the karst scenery of Yangshuo with roughly none of the crowds. We think it's the best-value detour in southwest China, but then we would say that.
